  Summer Camp begins June 16th

Fieldtrips will include:

  • Alligator Farm,
  • Miami Childrens Museum,
  • Miami Science Museum,
  • Historical Museum of South Florida,
  • Miami Metrozoo,
  • Venetian Pool,
  • Biscayne Nature Center

The Barnyard After School and Summer Programs provide a safe and welcoming environment, giving children the opportunity to express themselves in the following areas. All Programs are FREE to children and their families.

Academics

  • Daily homework assistance
  • Individual tutoring with America Reads Program
  • Computer classes
  • Debate Club conducted by Carrollton students. Topics include: the war in Iraq, genocide in Rwanda and Darfur and global warming.

Social Skills

  • Conflict Resolution Workshops with the Peace Education Foundation

Barnyard Children’s Art Collective

  • Through art children learn discipline, self-esteem, collaboration and problem solving. The Collective has several ongoing projects with Miami-based artist Lynne Golob Gelfman.

Cultural Enrichment

  • Fieldtrips to: Museum of Science, Fairchild Tropical Gardens, Biscayne Nature Center, Miami Art Museum, Historical Museum of Southern Florida, etc.
  • Black history and cultural heritage programs
  • Steel pan drumming classes

Health & Fitness

  • Nutritious snacks
  • Ballet, African and modern dance
  • Summer swimming lessons

Outreach & Adult Community

  1. Parenting/Self-esteem workshops, are required before parents can enroll their children at The Barnyard.
  2. Financial literacy and home ownership workshops
  3. Social Service Referrals: Coconut Grove Cares maintains close working relationships with agencies providing social services.
  4. Growing up in Multicultural Miami, a social justice initiative in collaboration with Carrollton School, addresses cultural communication gaps.
